Salary: $77,146 – $133,183 (Secondment)

Note: Effective April 1, 2024 the salary range for this position is $82,217 to $141,937 per year in compliance with the AMAPCEO collective agreement provisions. The new rates, effective retroactive to April 1, 2024, were recently confirmed and dates for implementation of the new salary rates are still to be determined.

Applications are invited for the position of Education Officer, Equity, at EQAO.

The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) creates and delivers online engaging curriculum-based large-scale assessments for students that lead to insights into their learning. EQAO is seeking dynamic individuals interested in working in a fast-paced environment using cutting-edge approaches to online assessment items and design. The agency’s continued modernization is part of an exciting mandate to contribute to the continuous improvement of Ontario’s publicly funded education system.

We are looking for an education officer to join the Equity Unit. This team leads the strategic planning and promotion of an equitable, inclusive, accessible, anti-racist and diverse workplace by developing and encouraging diversity and inclusion initiatives and adopting an inclusion engagement process to ensure all voices are heard to inform policies and decision-making. In addition, the team provides support services to board teams as it pertains to student outcomes. Education officers may be required to travel across the province to support schools and school boards.

RESPONSIBILITIES:
The successful candidate will

  • plan and deliver professional learning programs and advisory services on equity, diversity, inclusion (EDI); and anti-racism and anti-oppression (ARAO) programming for staff;
  • build partnerships and relationships with community stakeholders and organizations, specifically Indigenous, Black and other historically marginalized communities;
  • participate on equity advisory committees;
  • participate in Ministry initiatives and programming for equity and diversity;
  • provide educational EDI/ARAO expertise and support to schools and school boards on the analysis of disaggregated data, leading to school and board-created strategies to address disproportionalities and disparities; and
  • assist with content for EQAO’s website and social media platforms as the content pertains to Indigenous topics and EDI/ARAO.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
The preferred candidate will have

  • a current Ontario College of Teachers Certificate of Qualification and Registration and be in good standing with the College;
  • a minimum of 5 years’ teaching or equivalent demonstrated educational experience; and
  • a valid driver’s license (this is an asset, as there may be opportunities for travel throughout the province).

DESIRABLE ATTRIBUTES:
The preferred candidate will provide evidence of the following:

  • knowledge of education theory and pedagogy;
  • a deep understanding of equity, diversity and inclusion issues and how they impact student learning, performance and well-being;
  • familiarity with EQAO’s assessment frameworks and processes, and large-scale assessment practices;
  • understanding of the relationship between large-scale provincial assessment and classroom assessments;
  • a thorough understanding of The Ontario Curriculum, as well as experience in implementing it;
  • knowledge of the impact of EQAO assessment results on school policies, programs and professional practices;
  • relationship-management skills and an ability to develop, foster and establish positive networks of educators;
  • experience delivering online learning programs;
  • project planning, management and assessment skills;
  • superior presentation and facilitation skills to deliver professional learning programs;
  • proven initiative and effective skills in problem solving, collaboration and teamwork;
  • leadership and presentation skills used to meet deadlines, manage projects and deliver training;
  • excellent oral, written and electronic communication skills;
  • knowledge and understanding of EQAO reports and use of EQAO data in a school context to enhance student success;
  • proficiency with Microsoft Office 365 (Word, PowerPoint, Teams, Excel and Outlook); experience with data visualization tools such as Microsoft Power BI would be an asset; and
  • lived experience as a member of a historically marginalized community or with intersecting identities; thorough knowledge of principles of EDI/ARAO would be an asset.
